ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES

I am writing this on 10-15-1991= 9. Not since the year 1986 has the fifth of September been so eventful for me. It had been the day my oldest childhood friend, Ingelore Rosski-Schmidt, had chosen to visit me from Berlin/Germany. Her husband, Guenter Schmidt, had passed away, and I now met her new partner, Helmut, for the first time. Ingelore and I had not seen each other in 22 years. Helmut’s brother who lived in America had to fly to Germany on the very day his brother, Helmut, who accompanied Ingelore, came from Germany. I pictured two planes, one coming, one going, carrying two brothers in opposite directions. This reminded me of May 12, 1958, the day Mutti and I arrived from Germany and my sister-in-law, Annaliese Kullmann-Kaboolian, left for Germany.

A few weeks before their departure, Ingelore felt they should change airlines but keep the date. Good thing, too. Their originally scheduled flight of September 5 was hi-jacked. We watched the news on television and Ingelore kept saying, “That would have been us if we hadn’t changed airlines.” Also on the day of September 5, 1991, my friend, Gwen - I refer to her as ‘the woman from London’ in my poem Sound of the Siren - flew back to America returning from her visit to her home country, England.

All these things had to do with flying on a day, when, two years to the day before that, on September 5, 1984, Jane Roberts had left physical reality – an eagle soaring free – embarking on a journey to dimensions unknown but, I am sure, just as wonderful as the one we are focused in right now. I can't help but notice that this year's total for that date, namely, 9-5-1991=34, equals the day Jane was born, which is 5-8-1929=34 and sums to 34 also, which , of course, sums to that great number 7.

On August 23, 1991, 5 years after the eventful September 5 of the year 1986 I received two letters. One from Ingelore and another one from Maude Cardwell – because of her initials I can’t help thinking of her as our MC - announcing the upcoming 1991 Rocky Mountain Seth conference, to be held September 5 – 8. This date contains both of Jane Roberts’ vital statistics. She was born 5-8-1929= 34=7 and September 5 or 9-5 is the 7th anniversary of her death. Coincidence? I think not. My personal association with the numbers 5 and 8 is 1958, the year I came to this country.

1991(91 is the reverse of 19) is a year of beginnings and endings. In the world arena we need only look towards Moscow where a great change in history is taking place, namely, the total reversal of political persuasion of one of the world’s two (1991=2) great superpowers. My daughter called me to say she’d be attending a seminar on September 5. My son Corky would have a closing – he’s a Real Estate Salesman – on that same day, and my youngest, Richard, would cover the whole Rocky Mountain Seth conference. His upcoming baseball card show – he deals in baseball cards and is doing quite well – how could it be otherwise with Maude Cardwell as our MC – was scheduled and took place at the same time as this year’s Seth conference, namely, September 5-8, 1991.

I love it when significant events in our lives come together like this and tell their own story, which, however, has to be recorded to be appreciated. I have been a counselor for The Record, a large privately owned N.J. newspaper, from 1974 to 1980, after all, pun intended
